Dr. Daniel Kurtz

Dr. Daniel Kurtz - Technical Communications/IP Manager

Dan started his science career at Oakland University in Michigan where he obtained his undergraduate degree in chemistry and worked in the lab of Prof. Greg Felton. He then moved south and received his PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he studied fundamental aspects of electrocatalytic and photocatalytic hydrogen production in the lab of Prof. Jillian Dempsey. He then carried out postdoctoral research at the Rowland Institute at Harvard University with Dr. Bryan Hunter, where he worked with materials for energy-related catalytic processes. Dan worked as a scientific editor for the journal Cell Reports Physical Science for a year before returning to UNC Chapel Hill. He now works in the chemistry department with the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy (CHASE) to Liquid Fuels as the Technical Communications and Intellectual Property Manager. When not in the office, Dan helps raise and train service puppies, enjoys spending time outside on the surrounding trails, cooking and baking, spending time with friends (virtual or in person), and watching Carolina sports.
