Dr. Adam Dannenhoffer

Adam began his career at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY where he graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry before pursuing his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University under the guidance of Prof. Samuel Stupp. His research focused on the development of supramolecular light absorbing nanomaterials that mimic natural photosynthesis. Following his PhD, Adam worked at three different start-up companies in Chicago, IL and Ithaca, NY. Most recently, Adam was the Director of Research and Development - Materials at Ecolectro, Inc where he led efforts to create next generate Alkaline Exchange Water Electrolyzers. In 2026, Adam joined CHASE as the Deputy Director of Research Project Management, bringing his passion for energy technologies to UNC Chapel Hill. When not working, Adam enjoys exploring with his two dogs (Dortmunder and Carbon), visiting breweries and restaurants with his wife Cara, and caring for his new garden.
